07/27/14 Upbeat Updates (Uniform Help, Nurse Volunteers, Upbeat Mtg, Save the Date)

URGENT:  UNIFORM FITTING HELP STILL NEEDED!   Marching Band students will all be having uniform fittings on TuesdayWednesday, and Thursday afternoons this week in the high school bandroom.  Note that pre-camp is at the Freshman school while uniform fittings are in the band room at the high school.  See the MB handbook for the time your student’s section is scheduled.

Lots of help is required for this to go smoothly for our students.  We still have 11 open slots on Tuesday, 7 open slots on  Wednesday, and 9 open slots on Thursday.  Please volunteer if you can!  The work  is easy and fun, no sewing skills required unless you are a hemmer, and it’s a great chance to get to know some other band volunteers.  Thank you to all those who have already signed up!   Contact Cindy Schubart at caschubart@hotmail.com if you have questions.

ADDITIONAL NURSE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BAND CAMP (August 4th through August 8th) NEEDED!   We could really use more volunteer nurses during Band Camp week to cover our long days.  Nurses provide basic first aid support to students as needed.  Please contact Malinda Anderson at bandcamp@lakotawestbands.org for time slots and more information.

REMINDER:  Tuesday, July 29 – 7pm Meet and Greet with new directors Andy Carr and Tom Racic followed by special 7:30pm Summer Upbeat Club meeting for voting on budget, vote on articles of incorporation and bylaws for new  Upbeat Club corporation separate from Lakota East.  Full agenda and attachments for budget, proposed articles of incorporation and bylaws, etc.  are all available in the previous e-mail blast and on the website.  Click here to access these documents.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  Upbeat Club will again provide a Pizza Tailgate for families and students at 6pm prior to the Friday, August 8th Closing Ceremonies.  Come and learn about volunteer opportunities, talk with other band families, and have dinner!  For parents new to the high school band, the closing ceremonies are not to be missed!  Students will march the pregame and competition shows for us.  It’s amazing to see how much they’ve learned!

SAVE THE DATE:

  • August Upbeat Club Meeting is August 19 at 7:30pm in the high school band room.
  • Tag Day, our biggest fundraiser of the year – is Saturday, September 6.  We will be looking for parent drivers and need all our students to volunteer.  Students go door-to-door in pairs requesting donations throughout the West side of the district.  It takes almost 100 drivers and all our students to cover this big area.  Community support is outstanding – and how much we are able to raise is directly dependent on good student turnout and how many doors we can knock on!  Tag Day monies primarily go into our uniform fund.  It requires saving up Tag Day proceeds from many years in order to replace our uniforms.
