Upbeat Updates 08/24/14 (For the Calendar, Video Crew, Tag Day Volunteers, Mattress Sale, Freshman Parents)

For the Calendar:

  •          August 28, 7pm – Freshman Band Parent Night, Lakota West Freshman School – Auditorium
  •          August 28, 7-9pm – 1st “Silvers” night of the year!  Lakota West Freshman School.  Come sit in the stands, hang out with band parents, and watch the band practice, complete with all the “silvers”!  There’s always a complete run-through of the competition show for the parents at the end of rehearsal!
  •          September 2nd –  Reminder – Rose Parade Chaperone Meeting – Chaperones ONLY
  •          September 6th – TAG DAY!  All students needed for our biggest fundraiser of the year.  Tag Day funds are saved over multiple years so we can replace marching and concert band uniforms.
  •          September 10th – All Freshman join Marching Firebirds at Main Campus Practice Field after school for Freshman night rehearsal.  Activity bus will transport Freshman from LWF to Main Campus.
  •          September 11th – All Freshman join Marching Firebirds at Main Campus Stadium for rehearsal 7-9pm for Freshman night rehearsal.
  •          September 12 – 1st Home Football game & Freshman night – Beach Boys Show!  Freshman parents – learn more at the August 28 meeting!
  •          September 16 – 7pm is September Upbeat Club meeting.  Includes Rose Parade, Fundraiser, and Director updates.
  •          September 20 – Mattress Sale

Looking for a few parents who like to video!  The video crew needs 2-3 more parents to video band performances.  No equipment required and training provided!  These videos provide most of the footage for the Marching Band DVD’s! See Mark Geoghegan or email him at DVD@lakotawestbands.org.

Lakota West Bands continue to excel!

  •          Symphonic Winds  has officially been accepted to play at the State OMEA Convention in Cleveland in February 2015!  More details will be available closer to the event; Several concerts will occur prior to the OMEA Convention  performance – one may be at Music Hall – one of the best and most beautiful music theaters in the world!
  •          Once again, many Lakota West students have made All State!

TAG DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: 

  •          We have 43 out of 76 drivers needed for Tag  Day! Over halfway there but still need 33 more!  Click HERE to sign up to drive.  Spots available for drivers who can driver 4 or 6 students.  Students are typically in the car only for the time it takes to drive to and from their route in the Lakota West School Attendance Zone.
  •          We also need 3-6  more volunteers to help with the logistics of Tag Day itself.   Click HERE if you would like to help get students in their groups, run additional envelopes or receipts out to drivers, be a back-up driver in the event that someone does not show up,  or check drivers in when they return from their routes.
