Key points from Director’s report at 1/20/15 Upbeat Club Meeting:

WINDS TRIP:

  • Symphonic Winds trip itinerary for Cleveland State OMEA Convention Performance was shared.  Band (except for All State Band, Jazz, Orchestra Members, who will already be in Cleveland) will leave from Lakota West at 2pm on Friday, February 6 and return on Saturday, February 7 around 10:45pm.  CLICK HERE for more details.
  • Please pay for your Winds student’s trip as soon as possible. All trips must be paid for before the trip – please pay at least a few days before the trip so payments have been processed in advance of the trip.  Payment may be made via EZPay or paid by check to the Lakota West Bursar.  Cost for non-All State Students is $117.00; cost for All State Student’s (only ride the bus one way) is $91.60.  One student is only riding back with the band – so their cost is $41.43.
  • Please get meds and medication forms to Mr. Carr after school on Friday, January 23 for the Winds trip.  If needed, contact him via email to make arrangements.

MARCHING BAND  & BAND CAMP PLANS:

  • School starts on August 13 for 15/16 so the 1st semester is completed before the holiday break.  Although the directors looked at several options to be able to start band camp later, there isn’t a good way to compress the schedule and be able to deliver the same level of performance results.
  • With the early school start time, band camp schedule will be:

o   Week of July 20 – Pre-Camp and Uniform fittings

o   Week of July 27 – Band Camp.  Rehearsals will run until 9pm.

o   Week of August 5 – Post Band Camp

o   Leadership Retreat (for leadership team including all field commanders only) will start July 16th, 2015

  • Marching Band will be open to current 8th graders (in 9th grade in 15/16) through an audition process again this next year.

2015-2016 Jazz Band Auditions: We are excited to announce details for auditions for next year’s main campus jazz bands at Lakota West! For all student currently enrolled in a main campus or freshman campus jazz band, auditions for next year’s groups will take place during jazz band classes in the month of February. Students not currently enrolled in jazz band should see/email Mr. Nordyke individually to schedule an audition. All interested students should audition, even if they are not certain that jazz will fit into their schedule next year.  Please CLICK HERE for 2015-2016 Audition Information and CLICK HERE for the 2015-2016 Audition Music.

Solo & Ensemble Volunteer Sign-Ups:  Please CLICK HERE for link to Sign-Up Genius to sign up for one or more of the roles and/or slots to help with Solo & Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 14, 7am-5:30pm.  This is a big effort for Lakota West Bands and will require the help of many parents and students to make it a success for the participants.  Students can receive service hours for working at this event. If you sign up for a shift while your student is playing, you will be able to go listen to their event.
