AIR OUT SHAKOS and Gauntlets NOW

image

Parents of Marching Firebirds,  please make sure that your teen airs out his/her shako (hat) and gauntlets (wrist/arm fittings) ASAP. Because it was humid last Friday and the students were wet with sweat, mildew will form quickly. Thanks for your help with this matter.

Thank You for Making Tag Day a Success

image

With your help and the generosity of our West Chester and Liberty Township neighbors, we raised more than $21,000. Every penny was deposited in our uniform fund. Replacement of marching and concert band uniforms is necessary every five years or so due to wear and tear, and the cost is in excess of $100,000. Our current uniforms are in their fourth year of use, and this year’s Tag Day fundraising achievement will help us get in position for the looming big purchase.

Concert Band Uniform Fittings and Volunteer Needs

image

Many thanks for your help last week with concert uniform fittings. All went well, and that’s credit to your attentiveness and support.

For their cummerbunds and bow ties, on Monday, September 19, students should send in $14 cash, checks in the amount of $14 made payable to Lakota West Upbeat Club, or payment receipts from Charms. September 19 is also the day for students to bring clean, good-condition cummerbunds and bow ties to swap for a different color.

Student should also be working on lining up uniform items not provided by the school or Upbeat Club. For specifics, please click here. Also, the uniform committee still has a limited supply of used tuxedo shirts for $5: email if you’re interested.

As the saying goes, many hands make for light work, and we could use more volunteer help in hemming uniforms, shortening and lengthening sleeves, and reattaching buttons. Minimal sewing skill is required, and you do not need to have a sewing machine. To volunteer, click here. Questions? Contact our concert uniform volunteer coordinator.

You Can Still Order Spiritwear!

Take stock of your Marching Firebird spirit wear needs for football games and marching band competitions. If you already placed an order, it will be available at Silvers (Thursday evening rehearsals) as soon as it is delivered to our spiritwear coordinator. If you’re able to come to Silvers, your teen can check immediately after Silvers practice; alternatively, you can email Rachel Butler to see if your order is in. If you have not placed an order, please do as soon as possible to be included in our next bulk order with our supplier. Questions? See our spirit wear shop or email spirit@lakotawestbands.org.

Uno’s Placemat Advertising Opportunity

Our annual Uno’s Doughraiser will be Sunday, November 6 at the West Chester Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill. Band parents who own businesses will be given first choice on ad space on the Uno’s placemats. Please email Kevin Moorman for specifics.
