Concert & Jazz Ensembles

We have more than 10 concert bands and jazz ensembles meeting as classes during the school day:

In addition, Plains and Ridge Junior Schools offer Jazz Band as an after-school activity for eighth graders and second-semester for seventh graders.

The above-listed ensembles perform in concert at least three times during the school year.

In December, many junior school, freshman school and high school students audition for Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) District XIII Honor Bands. The students named to the honor bands participate in an honor band weekend clinic and concert in mid-January.

In January or February, most band students in grades 9–12 participate in the annual OMEA Solo & Ensemble contest.

In March or early April, many seventh- and eighth-grade band students enter the annual middle school version of the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Also in March or April, the Freshman School and High School Bands participate in the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) Large Group Contest.

Many Symphonic Winds students audition for OMEA All-State Band. Several of our students are usually named to either the All-State Band, Orchestra or Jazz Ensemble, which perform at the OMEA Annual State Convention in late January.
