A communication from the Lakota West Upbeat Club
This communication covers events and special notes for the next couple of weeks:
- Skating Night at Skatetown USA on 7/29 from 7-9 pm
- Cookie Dough Fundraiser 7/30 – 8/7
- We are kicking off a fundraiser at camp on Monday. The students will get a flyer and instructions to download the GA BLITZ App to record their sales. We are asking each student to sell at least 15 items. To kick off the sale, students will spend an hour on Monday afternoon calling or texting family and friends to get as many commitments as possible. It will be a fun, competitive group event! They will have until August 7th to continue selling and collect money. Please ensure your student is ready to go on Monday in order to participate! - Field trip to DCI show in Centerville 7/30
- Students will need cash for dinner at the food trucks at the show. Expected return time for busses at Freshman School is 10:45pm. Sign up for Remind text to get updates.
- Start time on Tuesday 7/31 changed to 8:30am (Thank you Mr Carr!)
- Drill masters (band marching shoes) will be fitted and ordered on 7/31 during camp. Rookies AND Vets need to be ready. See uniform document link below in uniform fittings for more information.
- Pool Party at Beckett Ridge Pool on 8/2 from 9-11 pm, transportation on own
- Lock-in 8/3 at Freshman Building from 8pm – 1am
- Games and fun for all after a full week of band camp!
- A snack assignment by section will be sent out next week. You can drop off Friday at Freshman school or bring to Lock-in at 8pm at Freshman Campus.
- Uniform Fittings and Third Qtr Snack donations Aug 6-7
- Volunteer link – we need many more helpers to get everyone fitted on schedule

- To keep us well-stocked for third quarters, students should place two two-liter bottles of lemonade or clear soda (no red, orange or dark soda, please!) and two full-sized packages of cookies (no frosted cookies, please!) in the bin outside the band room as they enter to put on uniforms for fitting day.
- Yard Signs Sale 8/6-8/17
- Post Band-Camp Tailgate and Preview Show 8/10.
- Tailgate at 6pm, performance at 7pm
- Lakota Opening Day Celebration 8/14
- The district has asked our band to play for the all Lakota staff Opening Day Celebration on Tuesday 8/14 at 9am at West High School in the gym. Report time is tba to get into uniform and warm up. They will play at 9am, then onto pictures at 10am. (This is why drillmasters MUST be ordered on 7/31)
- Picture Day 8/14
- Lifetouch will be taking a large group picture of the band in the bleachers weather permitting at 10am, and will offer individual photos as well, which are optional. More info to come.
- Upbeat Meeting 8/23
- First meeting of the year is Thursday 8/23 at 6:30pm in the Freshman Bandroom.
- Game location 8/24
- Our football game on 8/24 that was at Nippert, then at home, is now at Paul Brown Stadium! More information to come.
- Tag Day 8/25
- Our biggest fundraiser of the year! Money goes mainly towards our uniform fund (both marching and concert uniforms). We absolutely need all parents (as drivers) and students to participate (marching, concert and colorguard). Please reserve your Saturday morning from about 8am-1pm for an amazing event called Lakota Tag Day!
- Mattress Sale 9/15
- Our 11th annual mattress sale is Saturday 9/15 from 10am-5pm at West High School. We don’t need you to sell anything! Simply spread the word to your family and friends.
