I met with the school nurse this morning to discuss the problem many people have with turning in meds on Friday as they still need the meds for their child to take. Given that the medication MUST be turned in and CHECKED against the medication permit, AND, that the medication MUST be in the ORIGINAL bottle with the child’s name printed on it, the nurse told me there are 2 options: 1) Go to the pharmacy that dispensed the medication, explain the situation to the pharmacist and ask the pharmacist to give you a bottle with a printed label on it with NO additional pills or refills. She said there were several students in school that have done this (not band kids). 2) Take the pills needed for the trip, keep them in the original bottle to send in for verification, removing the rest of the pills and keep the remaining pills at home in a different container.
As students are not allowed to have medications on their person during the school day, please DO NOT send the medications and permits in with your student. I will be available briefly after school and after marching band rehearsal on Wednesday, Sept 19, and available again on Thursday, Sept 20 before marching band rehearsal (about 6:30) and after marching band on Thursday night. I will also be available after school on Friday until about 3:30. I am available at the Freshman School from 7:00-9:45 am every day.
I realize this is a cumbersome process. Please understand we are required to follow these procedures, it is the law. Thank you.
