Freshman Band Announcements – Jan. 14-18

  1. A short, but very busy week. Exams for both Freshman Bands will be on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The schedule on Wednesday is for periods 1-3, students are released from school at 12:15 pm. The students will receive 2 grades this week. Part 1, the students will perform their ensembles before their section. This grade will be recorded as a regular test grade for the quarter. Part 2, after performing their ensemble, each student will play the 2nd part of the circle of 4th’s, 5 scales (Gb, B, E, A, D concert scales). This grade will be recorded as the quarterly exam in the grade book. The students have been working on these scales for the entire grading period, hence the nature of the grade.
  2. The students will NOT have band on Thursday (periods 4-6 and they are released at 12:15 pm), neither Concert or Jazz bands will meet that day.
  3. There is no school on Friday, Jan 18.
  4. It would be time well used for all the students to rehearse with their ensembles after 12:15 on both Wednesday and Thursday. And while there is no school on Friday, it is a teacher work day and we will be at school (Main Campus). This is another marvelous opportunity for the students to get together and rehearse with their ensembles to prepare for Solo & Ensemble Festival.
  5. Honor Band is this weekend, beginning on Friday, Jan 18 at Mason High School. You should plan on arriving at Mason at 5:30 pm. You should plan on eating dinner before the rehearsal and, bring a bottle of water to the rehearsal. The rehearsal starts at 6:00 pm. Parents should be at Mason promptly at 9:00 pm to pick up the students. Rehearsal on Saturday begins at 9:00 am and will end at 4:30 pm. Lunch is provided for the students. Mr. Chumley has already collected all of the necessary forms and registration fees so there is nothing else the students need to bring. PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS MUST BE PRESENT AT ALL REHEARSALS. STUDENTS CANNOT BE LATE AND CANNOT LEAVE EARLY, please do not ask. This is an OMEA rule. With the short amount of time for rehearsal and a concert on Sunday afternoon, missing ANY of rehearsal time could cause a student to miss a significant portion of work on a particular piece. This is simply not permitted. If you cannot participate in Honor Band this weekend, please let either Mr. Snyder or Mr. Chumley know immediately so an alternate can be found.
  6. Last note on Honor Band. Since the students will not have band on Thursday and there is no school on Friday, Mr. Snyder, Mr. Chumley, and Ms. Pease will NOT be at the Freshman Campus either Thursday or Friday. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD TAKE THEIR MUSIC AND INSTRUMENTS HOME WITH THEM AT THE END OF THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY. This way, they will have everything they need for ensemble rehearsals and Honor Band.
  7. Last item for the week, there is no school on Monday, January 21-Martin Luther King Day and school is closed.

That’s it for this short, but busy week.
