The next meeting of the Lakota West Upbeat Club will be January 15th at 7:30pm in the Lakota West HS band room. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We are a parent volunteer group that supports all band activities. If you have a student in any band, grades 7-12, you are a member. Come to the meeting and learn more about what we do and how to get more involved especially as we get closer to Macy’s.
The Lakota East and West Upbeat Clubs will be hosting Community Conversations, one on 2/5 at 7pm in the Lakota West band room and one on 2/7 at 7pm in the Lakota East band room. Attend either date that fits in your schedule. We feel it is important as (band) parents to share our perspective and feelings on future changes in Lakota, especially as it relates to music. Recent board meetings have made it clear that there will be another budget shortfall in the 2014-15 school year. Please CLICK HERE for more information about these events, the format, and to sign up to indicate you will attend one of the meetings so we can better plan. Light refreshments will be served. Please pass this information to as many alumni and Jr. High band parents as you know. Invite your neighbors as well if you wish.
Some of the questions they have asked at previous meetings are: “What is the biggest challenge facing education, please illustrate this through a personal story,” “What do kids need to succeed and what role should schools play in that?” and something along the lines of “What do you expect the newspaper headline to be 10 years from now?” The questions could be totally different, but this gives you an idea of things to think about.
