Upbeat Updates 2/13/13 (taste of music, upbeat agenda, reds fundraiser, Macy’s trip-shows)

Taste of Music continues!   The next ‘Taste’ will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. at Red Robin across from the Rave!   Simply bring in the attached Red Robin Flyer and the band will receive 10% of your check in donation.  CLICK HERE for more information or to go to the band web page where you can view their online menu.  Don’t forget to place your SCRIP CARD order by this Friday 2/15  to get a Red Robin gift card and earn an extra 8.74% for the band’s trip fund!  Thanks to those who attended our Smashburger event in January, we raised $259 “one bite at a time” and had fun doing it!

The next meeting of the Lakota West Upbeat Club will be February 19th at 7:30pm in the Lakota West HS band room. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month. This month we have a few very important topics.  We are being asked for input and it needs to be given quickly.  If marching band remains as a graded CLASS there will be significant changes to how the program is run.  The alternative is to make it completely extracurricular.  Please CLICK HERE to read a one pager on the issues.  We will talk these through at the meeting and discuss.  Please come if you are able if you want to input.

Pillow (making) parties starting this Saturday.  CLICK HERE to sign up and join the fun!

Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and money for the band?  What could be better than taking in 12 Reds games with 7 or more of your closest band buddies and being paid at least $6,000?  Well we couldn’t think of anything so we thought this would be a fantastic new fundraiser!  This involves working concessions at Reds games.  You must be 16 or older and attend a 5 hour training class.  Band alums are welcome!  Please CLICK HERE to sign up and indicate your interest if you think you can commit to the training.  Games will be selected based on who commits and their schedules.  We will need at least 8 volunteers per game.  The more people and/or games we sign up, the more money that can be made.  Day games also pay more (do you have the summer off?).  This may be a “band camp chaperone” activity.  Details are in the sign up.  Let’s play ball!

For those parents and students that have signed up for the Macy’s trip, we will start collecting Broadway show preferences in the next few days.  Students should look for sign up sheets or information in the band room or the band room hall way at both the freshman and main campuses.  (We will find Ridge/Plains students as necessary)  If you are not currently in a band please check with other band students to see when the sheets become available.  Students that have not yet paid their Macy’s deposit should do so immediately by CLICKING HERE.  Followers please CLICK HERE to indicate your preferences.  Details are in the signup.  Please try to complete this process by March 1st.
