Tournament of Roses President Visit
The Lakota West Bands are honored to be hosting the Tournament of Roses President Richard Chinen and his wife, Kimberly, on April 25 – 28, 2014. During his visit, Mr. Chinen will be presenting Lakota West with the official Rose Parade Flag at the Spring Band Concert on April 28th. Mr. Chinen has revealed “Inspiring Stories” as the theme for the 126th Rose Parade. “The 2015 theme allows us to reflect on and appreciate the many people around us who elevate the human spirit by who they are, what they have done and what they continue to do” said Mr. Chinen.
During their visit, the Chinens will have the opportunity to visit several attractions around the area and taste some of our local Cincinnati favorites including Montgomery Inn, Skyline Chili and Graeter’s Ice Cream. On Saturday April 26th, the Lakota West band families have the opportunity to meet Mr. Chinen and his wife and spend the afternoon enjoying a lunch cruise on the Ohio River on BB Riverboats.
The cost of the 2 hour cruise is $35 per person and includes BB Riverboat’s signature meal of salad, marinated chicken breast, pulled pork with BBQ sauce, cole slaw, fresh baked buns, green beans, baked beans, Saratoga chips, and served with Chef’s Choice of Dessert. The cruise is scheduled from 12:00 pm – 2:00p m and leaves from the BB Riverboat dock located at 101 Riverboat Row, Newport, Kentucky 41071. Please arrive early to allow time to park and board the boat for the excursion.

Upcoming Concert for Freshman Bands
On April 28, the President of the Tournament of Roses Parade will be visiting Lakota West to make a formal presentation to the band regarding our upcoming trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade. The high school bands, Red and White Symphonic and Symphonic Bands already have a performance scheduled that evening and since the majority of our Freshman will be participating in marching band, we will be having the Freshman Bands play also. The Freshman Bands will be performing as a combined band – it will be huge, over 120 members on stage. We are programming 2 pieces and you won’t want to miss this performance, not only by the Freshman Band (it is the only time the Freshman will play as a combined band), but also, Red and White Symphonic Bands, and Symphonic Winds. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, April 28, 2014.
