Come Prepared:
- Arrive at your assigned time. Exception: Leadership Team members arrive 15 minutes prior to their sections’ assigned times to help their section members move through the fitting process.
- Parents, if you come, please wait outside. The band room gets crowded quickly, and a crowd slows down the fitting process.
- Wear athletic shorts and a short-sleeved t-shirt to the fitting. There are no fitting rooms, and you’ll be trying on uniforms over your clothes.
- Items for sale include:
- Drillmaster marching band shoes ($34)
- If you do not order Drillmasters during Uniform Fitting, you will incur an additional shipping charge of $20 for an order separate from the Uniform Fitting group order.
- Black and white glove pairs ($5/pair)
- Summer uniform shorts ($14) and polos ($13)
- Berets for sousaphone players ($26)
- Drum major gloves ($3/pair) and polos ($29)
- Unless rookies have hand-me-downs from an older sibling in excellent shape, they should plan to buy shoes, gloves, and their summer uniform.
- Veteran band members should plan to buy replacement shoes, gloves, and summer uniform items no longer fitting or in good shape.
- Please plan to pay in person by cash or check, or beforehand via PayPal through the Charms link on LakotaWestBands.org (bring printout of receipt to uniform fitting).
- Bring two two-liter bottles of clear pop (e.g., Sprite, Sierra Mist, 7up) or lemonade. These will be used for third quarter refreshments for the band during football games.
What you’ll do:
- Get fitted for pants, a jacket, gauntlets, a shako (hat), gloves, shoes and your summer uniform.
What you’ll take home:
- Parka (school property to be returned at the end of the marching band season)
- Shako in a shako box (school property to be returned at the end of the marching band season)
- Summer uniform shorts and polo shirt (yours to keep)
- Gloves (yours to keep)
- Red bag (only if you’re a rookie; school property to be returned at the end of your final season of marching band)
What you’ll receive later but before the first football game:
- Drillmaster shoes (yours to keep)
What you should have in your wardrobe before the first football game:
- Short-sleeved black t-shirt to wear underneath your uniform jacket (Sleeveless t-shirts are not allowed.)
- Black athletic shorts to wear underneath your uniform pants
- Plain black crew or knee-high socks to wear with your Drillmaster shoes (Footies and ankle-high socks are not permitted.)
What you should have in your wardrobe before the first cold-weather football game or marching band competition:
- Long-sleeved black thermal shirt and black thermal leggings/long johns to wear underneath your uniform
Bus Chaperones
We still have some open positions for bus chaperones for marching band competitions. Click here to raise your hand for this fun volunteer job.
Tag Day
Tag Day — our biggest fundraiser of the year — is Saturday morning, September 10. It’s an all-hands-on-deck effort! We need:
- two volunteers willing to shadow the Tag Day ’16 Co-Chairs to see how it’s done and commit to Co-Chairing Tag. Please e-mail president@lakotawestbands.org if you’d like to learn more about this important role.
- Volunteers to drive students and serve a variety of other duties (Signup Genius link to be distributed soon).
Student Fee Scholarships
A limited number of marching band student fee scholarships are available — scholarships that defray the student fee expense by half. If you would like to be considered, complete the application and return it by Monday, August 1. Applicants will be notified of their status by Friday, August 5.
