Fittings for concert uniforms will take place Wednesday, September 7, and Thursday, September 8, during block periods. Students will try on concert uniforms over their school clothes in large same-gender groups. Your teen will bring home a uniform on Wednesday or Thursday, unless alterations are needed. The only exception to this matter is the uniform for Symphonic Winds girls.
Speaking of alterations, we need volunteers (Sign-Up Genius) to hem pants, reattach buttons, and shorten and lengthen sleeves. Minimal skill is required, and the work can be done by hand. A sewing machine is not necessary. If you can only sew buttons, that’s fine! We still need you!
Read below for concert uniform and payment requirements specific to your teen’s ensemble — either Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band or Concert Band.
UNIFORMS FOR SYMPHONIC WINDS
Girls:
- Long black dress and pearl necklace: On Fitting Day, girls order and pay Lakota West Upbeat Club $67 for the dress and $7 for the necklace. When the dress comes in, the uniform committee gives the dress to the girl, and the girl arranges on her own for any hemming that may be necessary. On Fitting Day bring a check payable to Lakota West Upbeat Club, exact cash or a payment receipt from Charms. The uniform committee cannot order your dress until payment is received. It takes a couple of weeks for the dresses to arrive from our supplier, and then you may need time to arrange for alterations.
- Black stockings: Girls purchase on their own, keeping in mind that a knee-high style is okay as long as the tops of the knee-highs don’t show while sitting.
- Black dress shoes: Girls purchase on their own, keeping in mind that sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.
Boys:
- White tuxedo shirt: Students purchase on their own for $23 at Hobby Lobby. 40% off coupon available. (We have a limited supply of used tuxedo shirts available for $5 each on a first-come, first-served basis; if you’re interested, email us ASAP with your name and size.)
- Black cummerbund*: Students order and pay Lakota West Upbeat Club $10 on a date TBD.
- Black bow tie*: Students order and pay Lakota West Upbeat Club $4 on a date TBD.
- Black socks: Students purchase on their own, ensuring they come up high enough to cover bare legs when sitting.
- Black shoes: Students purchase on their own, keeping in mind that Drillmasters and closed-toe dress shoes will suffice, but sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted.
- Black tuxedo jacket and pants: These are provided by the school along with a protective garment bag.
*If you have a red bow tie and cummerbund from last year that is clean and in good condition, you can swap for a black cummerbund and bow tie. Also, note that cummerbunds and bow ties will not be available this week due to time limitations associated with fittings. The uniform committee will advise students when these items will be available, and when payment should be provided.
