Upbeat Updates 5/4/14 (State Competition, Weatherwax Scholarship, Kroger Rewards, Fundraisers, Upbeat Meeting)

One-of-a-Kind for Ohio:  Not only is Lakota West the only Ohio band program to advance three concert bands to state competition in class AA and A, but each of the Firebird bands earned straight superior ratings at the  state event Friday night. Congratulations to: Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Red Band and Symphonic White Band.

Bill Weatherwax Memorial Scholarship:  Reminder for Committee Chairs to submit nominations for the Bill Weatherwax Memorial Scholarship to Sue Tanner at president@lakotawstbands.org by May 8th. The Upbeat Club sponsors the Weatherwax award in honor of Bill Weatherwax, whom we lost suddenly several years ago.  The scholarship in his honor is available to a graduating Senior student in any band program who is recognized as a cheerful helper and exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism.

Kroger Community Rewards Renewal:  REMINDER in case you haven’t had a chance – It’s time for the annual re-registration of Kroger cards to our Upbeat number.  EVERYONE who has registered their card with Kroger needs to re-register to our Upbeat Community Rewards number in order for the band to continue to receive credit after 5/1/14. REMEMBER, purchases will not count for our group until after you register your card(s). Please CLICK HERE for instructions on how to re register your card.  Please do this as soon as possible.  If you have forgotten your password, just click on “forgot password” and a link will be sent to your email to change your password.  Please CLICK HERE for instructions on how to register your card/account for the first time.  You will need your KrogerPlus card or number to register.  Do you use your phone number at the register?  Call 800-576-4377, select option 4 to get your Kroger Plus card number.  After registering, members must swipe their registered Kroger Plus card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger Plus card when shopping for each purchase to count for the band.  Last year we raised thousands of dollars through this generous community program. We hope to do even better this year, but we need your help to make that happen. Please register your Kroger Plus Card today!

On-going Fundraisers:  Please remember that there are several ways to support the Upbeat Club through our on-going fundraisers.  In addition to A Taste for Music, Kroger Cards, Scrip Cards and Tastefully Simple, two new fundraisers have recently been added to our on-going fundraisers:  Tide Dry Cleaners and Kevin Moorman Insurance.

Tide Dry Cleaners:  Save your receipts.  There was a box placed on the lost and found table in the back of the band room at the West campus in April dedicated for turning in Tide Dry Cleaner receipts.  It is clearly marked.  Tide Dry Cleaners, in turn, will issue a check to Lakota West Upbeat Club for 5% of the total amount of all receipts.  For more information, CLICK HERE.

Kevin Moorman Insurance:  Kevin Moorman Insurance has recently opened a new office at 8300 Princeton Glendale Road, Suite 104 in West Chester and to celebrate, Kevin has partnered with the Lakota West Upbeat Club to offer a fundraiser to support the Lakota West band programs. For every referral from the Upbeat Club that comes in for an insurance consultation, Kevin will donate $25 to the Lakota West Upbeat Club.  For more information, CLICK HERE.

Upbeat Club Meeting:  Our next meeting will be on 5/20/14 at 8:00pm in the auditorium of the Freshman School – right after the Freshman Spring band concert. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We are a parent volunteer group that supports all band activities. If you have a student in any band, grades 7-12, you are a member. Come and learn more about what we do and how to get involved.  The annual elections of next year’s Upbeat Club officers will be held at the May 20th meeting.
