Freshman Band Announcements – Sept 10

PROCEDURES FOR FRESHMAN WEEK: SEPT 12-14

WEDNESDAY-SEPTEMBER 12, 2012

  1. Students will be transported by school bus from the Lakota West Freshman School to Lakota West High School main campus. We will leave the Freshman School at approximately 2:35 pm. Students must take all books, backpacks, and everything they need for the rest of the day with them. This ESPECIALLY includes their INSTRUMENT, MUSIC, FLIP-FOLDER and LYRE. We DO NOT have extras for them at the High School. We will NOT be returning to the Freshman School. We will arrive at Lakota West High School main campus at approximately 2:45 pm. Students should wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes. NO FLIP-FLOPS OR SANDALS ARE ALLOWED IN MARCHING BAND. Please do not wear them.
  2. Marching band rehearsal starts promptly at 3:00 pm. The Freshmen will rehearse with the Marching Band until 4:00 pm. Students need to be picked up from the band room area promptly at 4:00 pm unless they are staying to watch the remainder of the marching band rehearsal which ends at 5:00. Students are welcome to stay and watch, but must be picked up promptly at 5:00 pm.
  3. When you come to pick up your student, you must enter the school’s parking areas off of West Chester Rd or Union Center Blvd. The entrance to the school parking lot off of Lakota Drive West (near the roundabout) is closed as this is where the marching band practice field is. This entrance is closed off while the marching band is practicing for the safety of the students and is not reopened until after rehearsal is over.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2012

  1. On Thursday, September 13, 2012, students should report to the Lakota West High School main campus band room at about 6:45 pm. Rehearsal begins promptly at 7:00 pm in the football stadium and they will need a few minutes to assemble their instrument and get to the football field.
  2. Students should be picked up from the band room at 8:00 pm unless they are staying to watch the rest of the evening rehearsal, “Silvers Under the Lights”. That rehearsal ends at 9:00 pm. We encourage students and parents to stay and watch the remainder of the rehearsal, which will include a run through of the competition show. Again, please do not wear flip-flops or sandals. They are not allowed in marching band.
  3. When you come to pick up your student, you CAN use the rear entrance off of Lakota Drive West. This entrance will be open as we rehearse in the stadium.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2012

  1. Students should report to the Main Campus band room prior to 5:00 pm. We will have a complimentary pizza party for the Freshmen in the cafeteria beginning at 5:00 pm. The proper uniform for Friday night’s performance is long, dark pants (blue jeans are fine) and a white shirt. The students should wear their white band T-shirt that they purchased and used for Tag Day. If you do not have a band T-shirt, any plain, white shirt will work. The students MUST also wear athletic shoes, NO FLIP-FLOPS WILL BE ALLOWED, YOU CANNOT MARCH IN FLIP-FLOPS.
  2. At approximately 6:30 pm, the Freshmen will assemble in the auditorium to warm-up.
  3. At approximately 7:00 pm, we will march to the stadium with the marching band.
  4. Once in the stadium, the Freshmen will take their seats in the bleachers on the north end of the field and watch as the Marching Firebirds perform their pregame show.
  5. At halftime of the football game, the Freshmen will march onto the field with the Marching Firebirds and perform the pieces that we have been working on. And to close the halftime show, the combined groups will play the Fight Song.
  6. After halftime, all the band members will return to their seats and enjoy the 3rd quarter refreshments with the Marching Firebirds.
  7. At the end of the game, the Freshmen will march back to the band room to be dismissed. The game will end between 9:30 and 10:00. Parents should plan on arriving at school around 9:45 pm to pick up their child. It will be crowded, please plan accordingly.

We hope to provide a great experience for all the students and parents this week and it will be as long as everyone follows instructions. We will have right at 350 band members to manage during the rehearsals and performance. It is going to be a GREAT week!
