It’s August and the first Lakota West Upbeat Club meeting of the 15/16 school year is Tuesday, August 18 at 7:30pm. Hear about plans for this year and join us in the LWHS band room. Agenda, last meeting notes, and financials will be published the Friday prior to the meeting for your review in advance.
Mark your calendars for Tag Day! Tag Day is September 12, 2015 this year from ~8:30 until 1pm. Tag Day is the band’s biggest fundraiser; proceeds go primarily to our uniform fund. This allows us to replace the marching band and concert band uniforms as needed.
You can help by:
1) Marking your calendar and making sure your student attends. We raise money by requesting donations door-to-door. We have tremendous support from the community and it is not uncommon to have a check left waiting for us on the door! We cover the entire Lakota West attendance zone and the total amount raised is driven not by a few big checks but by $10-$20 donations at many, many doors. This means how much we raise is controlled by how many students we have turn out and how many doors we are able to knock on.
2) Volunteering to drive for Tag Day! If you drive, your student and at least one friend will ride with you on your route (unless they choose not to). We try to keep you as close as possible to your home neighborhood, and you learn lots of interesting things…..Your role is to transport the students to the designated route, keep an eye on the students working your route – they will be in pairs – and transport them safely back to Lakota West. All Marching Band members are responsible for bringing 2 packages of cookies to their assigned 2015 home football game. A bin will be available outside the band room to drop-off the cookies when students report on game night. NO LOFTHOUSE-TYPE COOKIES ALLOWED – The frosting is too messy for the uniforms. Congratulations to the Marching Firebirds for a great performance Friday evening! Remember to pack a lunch for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of post camp this week at the Lakota West Main Campus and bring your full water jug!
