Updates:

Congratulations to Lakota West Winterguard — many of their members are also in Color Guard — for outstanding placement in competitions during the Winter Guard International (WGI) season! Bravo!

The Taste for Music: Smashburger Edition fundraiser is this Wednesday, April 6. Visit either the Bridgewater Falls or Cox Road Smashburger between 5 and 8pm, and show the cashier a hard copy or smartphone version of this flyer. Share the flyer with your family and friends!

Freshmen, sophomores and juniors participate in Concert Band Auditions to determine their placement in concert bands for the 2016-2017 school year. Auditions occur by section as specified in the above “For the Calendar” section. Students volunteer to perform and can leave as soon as they are done with their audition. They are also welcome to stay and hear others audition. Auditions consist of about 30 seconds of solo or etude music as well as performance of a major scale from the circle.

We hope you’ll join us in the Lakota West High School Theatre at 7pm on Monday, April 11, for our Composer Concert featuring renowned composer, conductor and lecturer Samuel R. Hazo. Mr. Hazo will lead the Freshman Bands, Red Band, White Band and Symphonic Winds in performances of his acclaimed works. Prior to the concert, Mr. Hazo will spend the day with our band students as guest artist in residence.

Seniors and Senior parents: All seniors — Red Band, White Band, Symphonic Winds, Marching Firebirds and Color Guard — will be honored at our Band Awards Night on Thursday, May 12, at 7pm. Send a baby picture and a senior/current photo to secretary@lakotawestbands.org or place hard copies in the labeled envelope in the Main Band Room. Please label all hard copy photos so that we can identify you correctly and return your photos to you.

Try Band 2016 will be Saturday, April 16 at Lakota West Freshman School. Between 9:30 and 11am elementary students will visit with small group of musicians to learn about he various instruments, and at 11am Symphonic Winds will perform popular tunes for the crowd. Click here to volunteer to welcome people, direct them to rooms, etc. — We need your help!

April is Kroger Community Rewards Enrollment and Renewal time! It’s free, and it’s Lakota West Bands’ easiest fundraiser. All you have to do is go to krogercommunityrewards.com and designate “Lakota West Upbeat Club” in the Community Rewards section of your Kroger account. When you shop for groceries, swipe your Kroger Plus card (or enter the alternate ID) and the band earns money via a donation from Kroger.

Our next blast will include more information on Jazz ‘n Cakes, the Percussion Ensemble Concert with the Miami University Steel Band and the April Upbeat Club meeting (officer elections).
