A Taste for Music – Chipotle Fundraiser: Please mark your calendars for the next Taste for Music to be held at Chipotle on Union Centre on Friday, May 30th from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. The timing should be good for students getting out at 2:00pm, Rookie Marchers and Leadership Team who get out at 5:00pm, as well as, families having dinner as late as 7:00pm. The band makes a whopping 50% profit from this fundraiser, so please join us after school and help support the Lakota West marching band, concert band, jazz band, color guard and winter guard programs.

Lakota West Spring Concert: The final concert of the year for the Red and White Symphonic bands was a huge success on Monday, May 19, 2014 in the Lakota West Auditorium at 7:00pm. Special thanks to guest conductor, Brandon Compton who worked with the students on a couple of arrangements at the concert. Brandon has been a student teacher at West this semester from the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music.
Lakota West Freshman Spring Concert: The Freshman Spring Concert will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in the Lakota Freshman Auditorium at 7:00pm.
May Upbeat Club Meeting: The May Upbeat Club meeting will be held following the Freshman Spring concert at 8:00pm in the Freshman Auditorium on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. The Upbeat Club meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We are a parent volunteer group that supports all band activities. If you have a student in any band, grades 7-12, you are a member. Come and learn more about what we do and how to get involved. The annual elections of next year’s Upbeat Club officers will be held at the May 20th meeting.
Spring Jazz Concert: The Lakota Spring Jazz Concert will take place Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in the Lakota East Main Campus Theatre, at 6:30pm. The festival will include jazz bands from Lakota East and West Main and Freshman Campuses. We are pleased to have guest artist, Dominic Marino, who will be joining each jazz band as a featured trombone soloist.
Band Awards Night: The Annual Band Awards night will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in the Lakota West Main Campus Auditorium at 6:30pm. Awards night will begin with the Spring concert performance by the Symphonic Winds band. Awards Night is open to all band students and families with the highlights of the evening including the annual Senior slide show presentation, band awards and scholarships.
West Chester Memorial Day Parade: The Lakota West Marching Firebirds will be performing in the West Chester Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, 2014. The Lakota West band room will be open from 9:00-9:30am on Monday, May 26, 2014. Students should report to the backside of the old Union Elementary School across from the West Chester Post Office by 9:35am. Students are wearing summer uniforms: Red Polo and Khaki shorts, white socks and shoes that are as white as they can be with as little color as possible. They will march down the hill to the cemetery and be a part of the Memorial Day ceremonies. After that, the band will be dismissed. The band room will be open to return silvers and drums until about 12:30pm.
Rookie Marcher Day: Rookie Marcher Day will be held after school from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at the Lakota West High School on Friday, March 30, 2014. There will be a parent meeting in the Lakota West Auditorium around 4:30pm.
Lakota West Graduation: Lakota West Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Miami University. The “Pink” Band, comprised of all underclass students in the Red and White bands, will perform at graduation. Additional details and report times will be provided to the students during class.
