Try Band

At Lakota, Beginning Band has moved to 7th grade. Most districts offer beginning band in 6th or 5th grades. To explain the opportunity, make it accessible to all 6th graders, and to answer any questions, we host an Open House for 6th grade students and parents/guardians to Try Band! Students will be able to try any and all of the instruments!  No previous experience is required in order to join band in 7th grade.

The Open House for 2024 is January 25 at the West High School Band Room. Please see schedule below:

  • Cherokee and Endeavor Students – please arrive 6pm – 7pm
  • Adena and Freedom Students – please arrive 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Please enter at the rear of the high school, look for the band trucks and signs for Try Band!

At our Open House, we will have raffle prizes, instrument rental information, private lesson teacher lists and more!

We also travel to each West feeder school during the school day to introduce the instruments to all 6th graders! All safety protocols will be followed and new single-user mouthpiece units will be provided for each student to use. See image below. The schedule for 2024 is:

  • Monday 1/22 – Cherokee
  • Tuesday 1/23 – Endeavor
  • Wednesday 1/24 – Freedom
  • Thursday 1/25 – Adena
